WP Designer Showcase Theme

WP Designer Showcase Theme

Small Potato over at WP Designer has released a premium theme for showcases. It’s a very nice theme, although there are a couple things I would have done differently.

One is the CSS hover effect over the images. I think it would look better if the background had a little transparency allowing the image to still be seen. Or removing it and displaying the information below the images.

The second is the rating stars. I think these should have been customized for a better appearance. If this was a free theme, I wouldn’t expect them to be changed. For a premium one, I would. Here is one set that I created a while back: Simple Stars for WP-PostRatings Plugin. The plugin is already integrated into the theme.

The best part of this theme is that it’s customizable.

It comes with 5 different color schemes and 8 layout variations.

There is a demo available for Showcase.

There are three licensing options to choose from. Single Domain, Multiple Domain and Developer. Also, a credit removal option which costs a little extra.

One Click Event Websites

Many people hold events for whatever reason. Planning the event alone can take up a lot of time, including the time it takes to create a website for the event. RegOnline has an easy to use Event and Conference Registration Form.

RegOnline looks like they have a great solution for creating event websites all with one click. They have new event websites which look really nice and are very easy to read. The themes also make me feel what the event is about through the use of colors and images.

Sample theme

Although the themes look great, I found that a couple event websites displayed the main text more towards the left edge and it was very noticeable, at least for me. That would be a small distraction, but would not prevent me from registering for an event.

It looks very simple to find information on a page and registering for an event appears to be easy; fill in a form and you’re done.

If I was planning an event, I know RegOnline would probably save me a lot of needed time to focus on the event, rather than worrying about putting a great website together. Overall, RegOnline is user-friendly and a great solution for event planners.

The Best WordPress Themes

I know there are a lot of blogs that discuss the best WordPress themes, but sometimes I see themes in their lists that I don’t really think should be considered the best.

Here is a collection of the best, in my opinion, WordPress themes not in any particular order. Included for each theme is a preview of the theme along with a link to the theme’s demo (if available) and website, and a reason why I think it is the best.

Cleaker

This one is a beautiful three-column theme. It was my first experience with three columns. After a while, I just needed something different. All the colors go well together. I also liked this one because I could edit the CSS file very easily as it is well organized.

Merdeka

I absolutely love the hidden navigation in this one as well; similar to the one in Foliage Mod (#9 in the list). The colors in this theme go beautifully together.

Subtle

I like the transparency for the menu. This theme looks really good. There are also a few styles available for this one. The Apart style is my favorite (similar to the A List Apart website).

Gridlock

Gridlock offers quick access to RSS, integrated del.icio.us functionality, plus a place to link to Flickr or another photo system. Gridlock has Mike Davidson’s sIFR Rich Typography system built directly into the theme as well, offering a powerful Flash-based typography tool for typophiles and other design-types alike.

I used Gridlock for a very short amount of time. I liked it because it had that web-zine style to it. Also, as stated above, it has some nice features included.

FFF

This is a very green theme. One nice looking feature is when you hover over the previous posts; give it a try on the demo. I’m not really fond of left aligned themes, but this one looks great being left aligned, because the main content isn’t on the left, it’s more towards the center.

Squible

This is one of those non-blog-like themes that are becoming more popular. My favorite feature in this theme is the bottom where the previous posts and asides are listed. They are organized in a nice format.

Emire

Calm and aesthetically pleasing, Emire exudes an air of professionalism.

I agree with the above statement. This is a great theme for personal and business blogs. I don’t normally like black themes, being that usually the safest color for text can only be white, which is very boring. But this theme looks really good and isn’t hard on the eyes. I think the shade of green chosen helps with this.

JS Theme

I love how the categories are at the top of the page, rather than on the side, where usually you don’t see them if they are underneath other content.

Foliage Mod

I really like the pull tag at the top of this one. It keeps the navigation out of the way, separating it from the content. Again, with the black, it doesn’t look too bad with the nice shade of green on the bottom.

U4 Style

U4 Style looks really good. I like how the date blocks and the comments pop out, so they are easily seen. The green menu bar at the top is bright, but not blinding.

Fresh

This theme is fresh with the blue and green color scheme. It has that Web 2.0 look to it that most people want now. It’s very pretty!

If you think there is a theme missing that should be included here, leave a comment with your reason for liking it and the website for the theme so I can look and decide if it should be added.

Review of the Nintendo DS Wifi Max

As stated previously, I would review the Nintendo DS Wifi Max when I received it. Since mine was used, forgive me if I leave anything out. Included in the box is the Wifi Max Dongle, the base, utility disc and two manuals (one in English and the other in French). The Wifi Max is also for the PSP as well, so the manuals also include instructions for the PSP.

The first thing I did was plug in just the Dongle into an available USB port to see if Windows would recognize it and install the required drivers. Sure enough, it did, but I still needed the disc, as I didn’t know how to set anything up. I installed the software; it asked me if I needed the PSP or the DS software. Obviously, I chose DS.

Very simple so far, so I thought. It said it was connected so I open up my DS and test the connection. The DS sees the access point, but can’t connect to it. I had left the ZDWlan (configuration tool) settings at the default when I tried. Since those default settings didn’t work right, I was looking at them, not finding anything wrong, and then I see the Bridge setting and so I select my computer’s network adapter. Then, I test the connection on the DS again and it worked!
