This is exactly what I need. Just recently, a hard drive fan I had underneath one of my hard drives started getting very loud. I didn’t know this at first, because I couldn’t tell if it was a hard drive or a fan. I just knew the sound was coming from that area and I had forgotten that I even had an extra fan for one of the hard drives.
I found out about this over at Engadget.
The new technique employs noise absorbing, heat conducting plates which surround the drive, and a low-speed radiator fan to keep air moving. The companies say that the material used for the housing is the most efficient ever for conduction of heat, and that the drives are cooled more quickly and with less power.
I hope this eventually makes its way to the US.
