xTrain

xTrain is an online video based training website with classes about graphic design, web design, online marketing, digital photography and more. There are even free classes available.

I first heard about xTrain from Justine Ezarik. She had done a Viral Videos With xTrain video. One example she gives is getting started with a video blog. Depending on the type of video blog, it may be boring to some! Check out the video.

My favorite is Dr. Brown’s Photoshop Laboratory. Currently, there are three classes for free. Check out the classes to experiment with 3D, black and white, and animation. If you thought going to school was boring, Dr. Brown makes learning more exciting with his wacky hair-do.

What I Like
I like that I can preview a class before registering. People can also leave comments and rate the class. This can be helpful when deciding if you want to take a class. After you’re done, take a quiz and become xTrain certified!

What I Don’t Like
With web design classes available, I’m not sure why the sub-menus don’t look that great with the rest of the site. Larger font size and more to the right of the main menu link (probably because of being centered).

To find out how to get started with xTrain, check out the xTrain tour, starring Justine.

Snap Layout

I heard from Justine Ezarik about the new SnapLayout.com site. She actually did a short video with MC Hammer about how great it is. Watch the video below to find out what SnapLayout.com is all about.

Please enable Javascript and Flash to view this Viddler video.

Summary: SnapLayout allows you to make your MySpace page look better in an easier way than before. I guess you could say it’s a snap! (I know, not very funny.) It features a drag and drop editor and a header slideshow that can add a nice touch.

Sorry, I don’t have any inside screenshots. I don’t have a MySpace account. Just trust MC Hammer and Justine Ezarik and try it for yourself. Check out their MySpace pages:

TechCrunch also talks about SnapLayout and includes a screenshot and more details about it.

Talk Like A Pirate Day

Well, I’m not sure how this one snuck up on me, but I have never heard of this day until yesterday when a client wished me a Happy Talk Like A Pirate Day. Then Justine Ezarik had mentioned on Twitter about it getting out of hand.

It seems that yesterday, every year is International Talk Like A Pirate Day. September 19. How come I have never heard of this before? I was very curious so I entered it in Google and the first result was www.talklikeapirate.com. I guess it’s the official site for the day, so go check it out if you’re as curious as I was.

Did I talk like a pirate? No. But, I did have a good day yesterday!

Happy belated Talk Like A Pirate Day!
