As long as the posts are well written, images probably won't make much of a difference. I will still read posts without images, but when I'm stuck having to scan hundreds of posts in Google Reader because I've fallen behind, I do look for images to help me decide if I want to come back and read it. While it's not a hard and fast rule, I'll agree that if the image grabs my eye I'm more likely to "lock in" and read the article.
