Recommended Read Via Google Reader Shared Items

I use Google Reader to subscribe to RSS feeds, because I like being able to access my feeds where ever I am, but also, since I subscribe to so many, it doesn’t take up space on my hard drive.

I decided that I would share any feed items that I think you, the reader, might enjoy by adding it to the sidebar. Just look for Recommended Read to see what I am currently sharing.

iPhone Unlocked

It’s all over the Internet about the iPhone being unlocked by many people. Below is a video of a New Jersey teenager who unlocked the iPhone, allowing it to be used with other networks.

Alzheimer’s Memory Walk

Alzheimer’s is something I heard about when I was around maybe 13 years old when I found out that my grandpa had Alzheimer’s. Being that I was still young, I didn’t realize what it really could do, except change the person who has it. I just knew something was wrong. I used to go where he stayed and wasn’t sure if he could even remember me or my sister. I think in the beginning he could, but then he had to be told who we were. Even though he’d smile, you could tell inside he had no clue.

I am writing this as a way to help raise awareness and funds for the research, support and care of those with Alzheimer’s. The Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk is the nation’s largest event and is held every year in lots of communities in the United States. It doesn’t matter how old you are, you are welcome to help! In fact, I encourage you to help by becoming a Team Captain!

Memory Walk

If you are interested in becoming a Team Captain, please sign up right away so you can spend time recruiting members for a team. This is a great cause to help fight against Alzheimer’s and I hope everyone will do their part!

A Team Captain is a very important role, because you become a leader in fighting against Alzheimer’s and creating a great team that wants to help. It doesn’t matter if your team consists of family, friends or people you met in the store, you all share one goal! That goal is to fight against Alzheimer’s by providing support and care for those who need it.

Not interested in being a Team Captain? That’s okay, you can be a Team Walker or an Independent Walker as well. Please help out in anyway you can!

Maybe the idea of winning a weekend getaway just for raising $500 for Memory Walk will motivate you!

A Few Great Tutorials

Here are a few great tutorials for doing things with CSS! I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!

  1. Using PHP to generate CSS is a great way to centralize your color definitions just by using variables. One fun and possibly useful thing to do with this is automatically generating a color gradient from just one base color! Read this tutorial to generate CSS using PHP.
  2. Create a Lightbox effect with CSS, without using any JavaScript! This is one tutorial I am definitely going to try out, because I don’t like to use JavaScript for all those neat effects that are becoming more and more common on websites. Read this tutorial to create a Lightbox effect with CSS.
  3. Want to create tables using CSS? There’s an easy to read tutorial over at Veerle’s blog. Read this first tutorial and then the second tutorial for creating tables using CSS.
