Pownce Invites

Thanks to John H., I was just invited to Pownce.

For those of you who don’t know what Pownce is, it lets you send messages, links, files and events. Send them to an individual friend or everyone. Either login to the website or use the program that requires AIR.

Anyway, anyone looking for invites, I currently have five available and thought I would give them away. If you have a website, I would appreciate a link back.

Please leave a comment with the your e-mail address.

Replace the ‘@’ and the ‘.’ with [at] and [dot] to prevent spam. Example: me[at]softtechreviews[dot]com.

UPDATE: there are eleven invites available.

Take the Idiot Test

I may be the last one to know about this, but I found it through the iGoogle gadgets page. Being that it’s harder to read the instructions in the gadget, I went to the actual website so the words were larger.

If you want to take the Idiot Test to find out what your Idiot IQ is, take the first test and then try out the second test.

SunRocket Customers: Out of Service

I am a SunRocket customer who lost service on Monday to Wednesday when the service came back up. SunRocket never even notified any of their customers before disconnecting thousands of customers. No one heard anything until today in an e-mail. Included in the e-mail were two service providers who will transfer existing SunRocket customers.

I had even e-mailed them asking why, and they failed to respond back and two days later we read that we have to find another provider.

I’m sorry, if SunRocket fails to notify customers about going out of business and accepted new customers, I’m not going to sign up to any providers they mention in an e-mail. I did a lot of research and looked around for about an hour and decided to go with ViaTalk. They have a lot of features, possibly more than SunRocket and cost the same, $199 per year.

Even though I am not a customer as of yet (on hold, waiting to get information about transferring two numbers) I recommend going with ViaTalk, as they offer a lot of features for a great low price. And currently, they offer two phone numbers for the price of one!

If you want to read comments from other unhappy SunRocket customers, you can read this entry on BetaNews. Also, I guess people are also filing complaints using the Federal Communications Commission website. Otherwise, I recommend transferring your phone number(s) immediately so you don’t lose your phone number.

For help in deciding if you want to switch to ViaTalk, here’s another person who has gone with them, also providing steps in unlocking the SunRocket Gizmo if you’re interested in saving money.

Check Out These Cool New Products

It appears that TV Products 4 Less has some new products this summer. One such product is the Forearm Forklift, which would be great for our couch that we have whenever we decide to purchase a new one. Of course, our couch is much longer than the one in the picture on the product’s page. You could probably fit about six to eight of me on our couch. I wonder if it would still work?

Anyway, one other product is the Clapper Plus. I wish this existed when I purchased the Clapper for David. He would love this one. Besides, our three-year-old, I think, has broken the one we have, because it doesn’t work quite as well as it did in the beginning. Our son likes to play with it, knowing that the light and fan turn on and off by either clapping or tapping on the Clapper.

Introducing the Clapper Plus with Remote Control. This convenient device allows you to turn on or off up to 2 different appliances with a remote control or by clapping your hands.

The Remote Control would be so much easier and we could stop clapping the light on and off so our son would stop doing it as well! Anyone who owns the Clapper should buy the Clapper Plus, because I’m sure you’re just as annoyed with how sometimes it doesn’t work and you have to clap again!

This next product is something I really could use to reduce the battery clutter inside my desk. We have so many batteries (mostly rechargeable batteries) that they start piling up. The Battery Organizer can help by storing AAA, AA, C, D and 9 Volt batteries. The organizer can hang on a wall or inside cabinets.

And, who doesn’t eat at their desk? Everyone needs a Computer Keyboard Vacuum to clean up some crumbs that have fallen. This plugs into your USB.

Hard Drive Failing?

Well, after my previous entry, BSOD & NTLDR Is Missing, I turned on my monitor this morning and there’s that blue screen again and my hard drive magically disappeared. Now, I know I did not bump my case since then, so it can’t be that a cable is loose. But, I open up my case, push the cables in, start up and there’s my hard drive.

Maybe it’s the cable? Maybe it’s the hard drive? I don’t know yet, because my hard drive started clicking and then Windows locked up and displayed a blue screen. There was no file on the blue screen this time. I decided to not start Windows back up again, because that’s the second time I’ve heard this clicking and I read somewhere that you could possibly lose any chance of backing up files. Although, maybe that’s their way of getting new customers.

The only files that are important to me right now on that hard drive are my e-mails. I haven’t had a chance to export them.

There are a couple of blog entries over at Geeks Are Sexy that discuss recovering files if your hard drive has failed. I don’t know if I would ever try this unless I was really sure (told by an expert) that my hard drive doesn’t have a chance of recovering files any other way. Supposedly, if no other method of recovering files works and you really need those files, putting your hard drive in the freezer gives you a few minutes. From what I’ve read, it doesn’t seem to give you long enough unless you only have just a few files to backup. This may not work for everyone.

Note: Geeks Are Sexy moved to www.geeksaresexy.net, the entries above are on the old blog.
